Some Editors Are Unbelievable

I do freelance writing for companies from time to time. The pay isn’t nothing to write home about but if you have four or five projects going with other clients, then you should be all set financially. I met with an editor who immediately assigned me to work and mind you without seeing samples of my work or resume. While trying to get the work done, my baby kept interrupting and as a family rule, my husband and I would usually drop whatever we are doing to make sure that the baby’s needs are taken care of. It was one night trying to meet my deadline that the editor started to voice her opinion on the whole baby situation. She had not only accused my baby of being “spoilt” but she also added that I should sit and get her work done and let the baby learn independence by watching an educational DVD. In my mind I’m thinking that this woman, who is also a mother, is one of those people that the media always talk about who uses TV to babysit their kids. I immediately called off her project citing family first and i knew she was not a happy camper. Her lost. In the end it really isn’t worth my sweat and time working my ass off for $2.00 per $500 word article when I could be spending that time with my kid or getting house work done. I think my husband said it best when he said “I’m sure our daughter could find $2.00 in quarters around the house while you’re killing yourself behind that writing project”. He’s right. Ain’t worth it.
