I recently moved into a new home and I really wanted to finish the basement and turn it into a family leisure room. I added paneling to the walls, put up a drop ceiling, built my own entertainment stand to hold my television, media players and speakers and I added a fake fireplace. I’ve always liked fake fireplaces. They really dress a room up and the one I purchased has a wireless remote control that lets me adjust the heat output and flames that it displays. While my sister was in a hair salon one day last week, she had to wait for a while due to not making an appointment first. She has known the owner of the business for several years, so she usually can walk in and the owner fits her in without waiting a real long time. She noticed something different at the reception area, and a new employee that she had never seen before or met. She decided to walk over and meet her. While introducing herself and having conversation with her, she noticed a new computer, cash register and more sitting on a new desk the salon recently bought. She asked why the upgrade was needed. They explained that it was one of the POS systems that is a real time saver in many ways and actually allowed them to reduce the number on staff. It helps them making appointments, has a feature to print out receipts, instead of buying and writing out receipts, and much more. I started looking at system they purchased as she was showing me all that it did. She said there are several different POS systems on the market today which also comes with the software for the systems to make it easier to get started using it.

Last year my brother in-law had his house broken into while he and his family were on vacation nearly 2000 miles away. As soon as his alarm went off, he received a call on his cell phone from ADT’s customer monitoring center letting him know that his alarm was going off and they wanted to be sure everything was alright. My brother in-law informed them that they were on vacation and nobody was at the house. ADT alerted the local police and they were there within minutes. My brother in-law purchased his home security system from ADT right when they moved into the house. My sister told him that it was a waste of money because they moved to a “very safe neighborhood” and wouldn’t stop complaining about spending the money on a full home security system when they didn’t need one. Well, it turns out that even the safest neighborhoods still get houses broken into occasionally and that you can never be too safe. If they haden’t installed the alarm system, who knows what they would have came home to.

I can’t even imagine coming back from vacation to a trashed house with all of my family’s possessions and heirlooms gone. My sister now wants him to install security cameras on the house so that they can monitor them from any computer wherever they are. I’ve been thinking about installing cameras at my home for a while now, and I think I might go out and buy a full video surveillance system when I get my income tax check next month.

Over the years I have been through at least a dozen different hard drives. Some of them have crashed, some of them have been infected with viruses, and some of them just stopped working because they were just cheap. Since I started using Western Digital hard drives I have not lost a single drive or had any of them stop working out of the blue. My neighbor has always been a handy man that does many different kinds of jobs for many people. When he retired, he thought he would enjoy all the time relaxing. That is when he decided he needed to do things to stay somewhat busy, at his own selected time. He has always done a lot of welding, so he still continues to do so for many people. Recently, he bought a new mig welder. It is a compact mig welder where he can easily take it wherever he goes, for whatever job he is needed to do. He showed it to me and now I am thinking of buying one for myself.

Awhile back I needed to transfer some files from one computer to another computer, so I picked up a 4gb compact flash drive. It held plenty of files so I did not have to burn multiple CD’s to transfer the data. Now that I’ve been using a compact flash drive, I wish I would have been using one for years rather than using CD’s or DVD’s to transfer files between computers.

I have an elderly neighbor who used to always go to church every Sunday. She began having a lot of health problems. One of her problems was her loss of hearing. This broke her heart. She is now almost completely deaf. She has tried many hearing aids and other hearing tools, with no success in helping her to hear. When she would go to church, she could not hear other people talk, or the sermon being preached. Finally, a friend told her that they have closed captioning on her television. She now gets to listen to more than one sermon on Sundays due to watching the closed captioning she uses on her television, which makes her much happier.
